A World of Colours – First Words and Pictures books
Budding young artists will love this colourful book that explores a wide variety of colours in everyday life. The book’s images will help readers understand colour, texture and design and as kids turn the pages they will have lots of chances to make comments and ask questions; make descriptions; read and understand words and simple sentences.
“I love red, red’s my favourite colour!”
“Mine is orange!”
“Blue!”
Our book this week was inspired by a conversation between the children.
We did some colour mixing, with red and yellow to make orange. The children enjoyed squeezing the paint out themselves, sometimes a lot coming out all at once! Using brushes and hands, they painted watching the colours mix together and change.

We went on a colour treasure hunt, using the book in the room and found 3 different objects of the same colour, taking it in turns to go hunt and come back to show the objects to each other. The children also found items that were multi-colored, learning a new word! We talked about how it is okay to all like different colours as we are all different too.
