Superworm by Julia Donaldson and Axel Scheffler
Superworm is a hero with a difference. Super-long and super-strong, he is always on hand to help all the other animals and insects - whether he is saving baby toad or rescuing a beetle from falling down a well. He can change himself into many different things. However, when the wicked Wizard Lizard hears about Superworm, he sends his grim servant crow to kidnap Superworm, and uses his magic flower to enslave our brave hero. Superworm’s friends all work together to set him free!
Following on from some of the children making Superworm out of playdough last week and telling us about the story they had at home, we decided to read it all together.
The children can join in with the familiar words and guess what is going to happen and how Superworm is going to change his body. They use their bodies to wiggle and squirm and talk about how Superworm might be feeling when he is caught by the Wizard Lizard.
We have been using our fine motor skills to thread objects onto pipe cleaner snakes and seeing how long we can draw our own snakes. We have been using our gross motor skills to wriggle around like worms and make a long line.
