Stickman by Julia Donaldson and illustrated by Alex Scheffler
“Stick Man lives in the family tree with his Stick Lady Love and their stick children three.”
After going for a jog one morning, Stick Man encounters a bounding dog, who just wants to play fetch. This sparks a series of unfortunate adventures, which lead him far from home. As the seasons pass, Stick Man meets a surprising friend who might just be able to help him get home. Will he get back to the family tree in time for Christmas?
Many of the children are familiar with the story of Stickman and enjoy joining in with the words. We have learnt the Makaton signs for ‘Tree’, ‘man’, ‘bird’ and ‘Santa’.
When outside playing, we collected a big pile of sticks of all different sizes and talked about ‘short’ and ‘long’ and ‘bigger’ and ‘smaller’.
We played with some snow (made of flour and glitter) and explored how it felt with our hands. We made marks - shapes and letters of our names with our fingers.
